TOWN OF LISBON FIRE HYDRANT PAINTING CONTEST

contest

The Lisbon Board of Selectmen is sponsoring a contest to assist the Town in painting our faded and rusted Fire Hydrants. We would like to encourage residents to pick a nearby Fire Hydrant that needs painting and help restore it. In September the Board of Selectmen will pick five of the Hydrants. Each winner will get $100.00 (One Hundred dollars) each.  Please follow these simple rules.

  • Use a wire brush or cordless drill with a wire brush and scrap off loose paint and or rust. Does not need to be taken down to bare metal (It took  me about ½ hour).  Brush off any loose material or wipe down Hydrant.
  • Prime Hydrant with an etching gray colored primer (I used several light coats from almost two spray cans).

  • Once the primer has dried, the Hydrant must be painted with a bright red gloss enamel spray paint. This paint can generally be found at any automotive store. I used a Massey Ferguson Red High Gloss enamel.
  • I finished up the chains with black gloss (These can be any color).

  • In the areas that are smooth/flat (barrel of Hydrant) create your own design if you wish. There are some words and markings on each Hydrant.  These can be hand painted to make them standout.
  • The Dome of the Hydrant can be painted white along with the covers, but it is not required.

Please contact Scott Champagne at 603-838-6376 when you have picked a Hydrant to paint so that you can be enrolled in our contest.  You may also contact Scott  with any questions or concerns. He can be available to help.

HAVE FUN and GOOD LUCK!
